The Vienna Tourist Board has been partnering with leading Swiss art fair Art Basel in Basel for the fifth time. Its “Now. Forever” Viennese coffeehouse was open to visitors at the Collectors Lounge from June 15-18. Dedicated to Viennese Modernism the new 'Beauty and the Abyss' magazine also was on display in the lounge.

In 2017 the Vienna Tourist Board was using the high-profile Art Basel art show to draw attention to the Austrian capital’s contemporary cultural scene in the “Now. Forever” Vienna lounge. The stand in the Collectors Lounge was designed by renowned studio EOOS, which came up with a modern take on the Viennese coffeehouse for the event. “Vienna is proud of its strong traditions and rich cultural history, but we are also proud of the major artistic and creative potential in the present day, which draws on the past to come up with exciting new creations,” said Vienna Tourist Board Director Norbert Kettner.
Thonet chair number 107 and EOOS tables with a white finish provide the central design elements of the “Now. Forever” Vienna lounge. The designers have also created variations on the classic Viennese coffeehouse identifiers: large-format mirrors, wall panels, bar elements, tables and upholstered furnishings. A three-dimensional interpretation of the Vienna Tourist Board’s new CI provides an additional level in the space. the initial letters of Vienna/Wien frame the stand in the entrance area via a reflection.

ABOUT ART BASEL
Founded in 1970 by gallerists from Basel, Art Basel today stages the world's premier art shows for Modern and contemporary art, sited in Basel, Miami Beach, and Hong Kong. Art Basel’s engagement has expanded beyond art fairs through a number of new initiatives. In 2014, Art Basel launched its Crowdfunding Initiative, in collaboration with Kickstarter. This initiative presents jury-selected art projects to potential benefactors, which include Art Basel’s vibrant audience and the Kickstarter community. The initiative has catalysed much-needed support for outstanding non-commercial art projects worldwide and so far has helped pledge over $1.4 million to creative projects around the world. For Art Basel Cities, launched in 2016, Art Basel is working with selected partner cities to develop vibrant and content-driven programs specific to the individual city. Connecting them to the global art world through Art Basel's expertise and network, Art Basel Cities supports its Partners to develop their unique cultural landscape.
